The New Book

I am most happy to announce that my newest book is finally in the publication stage. I took extra care with the editing, to insure good continuity, cogency and of course spulling. Although my memoir "Marinating in Dream Sauce" is satire, I didn't stray far off the path of realism. Writing "Gallery of Hope" was a totally different experience. I got to play with things, creating a story out of thin air as it were. I write in stream of conscious I am not a build something by thumbing through the thousand notes left from thoughts along the way. But that's just me. The theme of the story focuses on black and white photography, and the gallery owner, one Wendell Wankerman, who defiantly adheres to his version of "Straight Photography", black and white of course. It is the quality of Hope, that entertains the satirical nature of clinging to hope as the life vest of life. Wendell Wankerman's story, although fictional, has roots in real life exper...

The Finished Product

It has been almost seven months since I began working on "Gallery of Hope", an outline idea document that decorated my home screen for some years, working on other books. Yes that smacks of putting it off. And that smacks of some sort of resistance, and that, is something I've been working on. Yeah, that..."why is that?" thought that nags. I believe the story is a good one, such that the reader will find engaging sufficiently to continue reading. For any black and white photography enthusiasts the story should entertain, being it's a black and white photography thing going on. And folks from Ewebark, Oregun, well, they know who they are and where that is. Most readers will certainly know, eventually. I have decided to remain an independent author, have signed on to an online publisher, and not for the first time. There are pro's and con's to that, and I am one that likes having control over my books. This one being the most refined yet. This bo...

Ending the Story

There has been too much time between my posts, I know. I would like to think it is because I am hyper focused on ending the book I'm working on "Gallery of Hope". Hope being the operable work, although the story is about black and white photographers. Being my first book of fiction, I'm finding that I really like the experience. I had thought I wouldn't be able to just make things up and keep within reality, and came to find out, you don't have to entertain normal reality. No rules to the contrary. I even added magical realism . I have found that developing characters, beginning with finding a pertinent name, along with their backstory that has become one of my favorite tasks, developing the story. I have purposely altered famous names, most well known locations, due to several considerations. Keeps things totally fictitious, and hopefully with sufficient satire to taste. The story follows the historical timeline relative to the migration of settlers ...

The Evolution of a Story

Writing stream of conscious has its advantages and disadvantages. This form of writing is for poetry and fiction. Writing non-fiction is all about laying out factual informative in a cogent way, Fiction is all about entertaining, and that allows for all sorts of personal touches. In my humble opinion, writing stream of conscious allows a free flow of creative thought when it can be employed. For me, it is essential in writing fictional satire. The book I am currently writing has been testament to that, with the flow of action laid out not that far off a stand up routine. The story of Wendell Wankerman is now nearing its end, with the story's primary character now being woven together for a fitting ending, and keeping the cherished need for hope alive, and maybe even helpful. I write satire, and this book, being my first fictional work has allowed e to stray from my traditional writing. Integrating the story's parts together as I move along, with the future being woven a fe...

At the Speed of Writing

Fictional stories aren't much different than non-fictional accounts, if one isn't paying attention. They both share the quality of writing a story. However, non-fiction demands accountability to reality, truth, an correct spelling. Fiction, on the other hand allows for serious deviation from all that. It also allows for coming up with cool names that pop into the writer's head when needed. Having fourteen books in print of the non-fictional type has clarified these distinctions for me, now halfway through a satirical story with fictional names and people, places and dates. It just has to work within the story. Well, duh. figuratively speaking, most people that can read already know this. Writers who venture from one form to the other more directly realize this on the fly. It should also be noted that writing fiction is so much more fun than talking about reality. There's far too much of that already. Wendell Wankerman is making his way through the story of his life, ...

Committed Now

It is official now, having signed on to a publishing company today. That is the impetus needed to return to serious writing on the new fictional novel. Having completed the prior two books leaves me without no excuses but to produce. Having spent the day putting words to the page, I am feeling the flow to the stream of thoughts smoothing out. I write stream of conscious, having always written in this manner, so I was fairly amazed at having produced ten pages on the first sit down, as I'm creating scenes and characters on the fly. This book I won't have to design and create a book cover, thankfully, as I haven't a clue as to where to begin with this particular book. I say with with conviction, having designed all fourteen of my other books. Somehow I just sort of found the design unfolding as I played around with the framework. All of which makes me pretty happy. I have been errant recently in putting words to the page on this blog. Something I will be changing, keepin...

The Write's Progress

With the last two books now finished and in publication, I have turned my attention to the novel opening that has sat on my desktop for... some years now. The tomato sauce stain on one's white shirt right in the middle, second button height. An ugly reminder of the a pretty good meal now a memory otherwise fading into oblivion. It isn't that I have lost interest in the work. It's more of the fact of not having a firm footing on just how I was to go about making it come to life. /That sort of writer's dilemma.      A family member's question if I had ever heard of Terry Pratchett, changed that. No, I had not heard of that gentleman. Gadzooks! How can that be!? If i had known that answer I would have to ability of divine revelation. Turns out, Terry Pratchett books have become a divine revelation for my writing. Being a writer of satire, he has become my master. Master Pratchett, as Erma Bombeck and Dave Barry once held that slot, forty years ago....
